Who Are The Children Of God? And How Should They Conduct Themselves in Today’s Society

They are faithful believers of Christ Jesus as written in 1 John 3:2, “Beloved, now we are children of God, and it is not revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.”

Think about that for a minute. We shall see Him as He is! The HOPE of things to come for us.

Who Are The Children Of God

So, as children of God, how should we conduct ourselves? We should reflect our faith and the teachings of the Holy Bible in all we do and spread His word to others. But in today’s society, this can be challenging, but it is not impossible. Here are some key guiding principles:

Love and Respect

Jesus taught us to “Love your neighbor as yourself” in Mark 12:31. This commandment is fundamental to Christian conduct, and it means showing kindness, empathy, and respect to everyone we encounter, regardless of their beliefs, background, or lifestyle. Something that may be hard to do but not impossible if we model ourselves as Jesus.

Honesty and Integrity

Proverbs 11:3 tells us, “The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.” Honesty and integrity are cornerstones of Christian conduct, and we should strive to be truthful and transparent in all our dealings. But when evil slips in to our lives our want and greed decide to take over, and that can be very destructive as we have seen with many high profile people and preachers.

As for God, his way is perfect: The LORD’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him.
Psalm 18:30

Humility

Philippians 2:3 advises, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” Humility is a virtue that allows us to recognize the worth of others, and to serve them selflessly.

Being humble also means that when you help others you keep it in secret, except to those who are part of your plan. Telling others is being proud, and the Lord doesn’t like pride as in Proverbs 8:13. Of course, telling your testimony of helping will encourage others to follow your lead.

Humility Is a Fundamental Virtue in Christian Conduct

In essence, humility is not about thinking less of ourselves, but thinking of ourselves less. It’s about putting God first, others second, and ourselves last, reflecting the selfless love that God has for us.

How To Learn and Strengthen Humility
Forgiveness is Humility

Ephesians 4:32 instructs us to, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ, God forgave you.” Forgiveness is a powerful act of love that reflects God’s mercy towards us, and it allows us to let go of resentment and to seek reconciliation.

Forgiving someone who has hurt you deeply can be a difficult process, but it’s an important step towards healing and peace. The process is started by recognizing the hurt and allowing yourself to feel the pain. It’s okay to grieve the harm that was done to you, but you need to express your feelings outwardly. This could be through writing, talking to a trusted friend, or seeking professional help.

Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life.
Proverbs 22:4

Remember, forgiveness is a process that takes time. It’s okay to move at your own pace. As Colossians 3:13 says, “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” This is the essence of Christian forgiveness.

Remember, forgiveness in Christianity doesn’t mean condoning wrong actions or allowing yourself to be mistreated. It’s about releasing the desire for revenge and leaving justice in God’s hands. By holding on to revenge your life will be drawn unwillingly into evil and leave you in a very destructive path for your life. Forgiveness is a process that requires God’s grace, and can lead to soothing peace and strong spiritual growth.

Stewardship

As Christians, we are called to be good stewards of God’s creation (Genesis 2:15). This includes caring for the environment and using our resources wisely. It also means using our talents and abilities to serve others and glorify God by helping clean up the environment as a Christian whenever possible.

Faithfulness

Faithfulness to God involves regular prayer, studying the Bible, and participating in fellowship with other believers. It also means standing firm in our beliefs, even when faced with societal or political pressures to conform, and social media is a place that can challenge your faith and belief.

Living as God’s children in today’s broken society involves embodying the teachings of the Bible in our daily lives. It’s about showing love and respect, being honest and humble, forgiving others, being good stewards, and remaining faithful to God. While it’s not always easy, it’s a journey worth undertaking, for “God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him” (1 John 4:16).

Remember, humility is not about having a low self-image, but about having a realistic view of ourselves in relation to others and God. Being honest about who you are no matter what your circumstances will help guide you and your faith to the Lord. As a Christian it’s about recognizing our limitations, appreciating the value of others, and being open to growth and learning.
