Men, Are You Lost?
“Ask for directions,” My girlfriend at the time (and now my wife) said to me when our portable (before cell GPS) GPS stopped working. Of course, being a guy, I would ignore her comment and prove to her I am a man who is very capable of finding the place we were lost finding.
So we turned around a few times for about 30 minutes before my mind figured out that asking for directions was ultimately the right thing. Well, as you can tell, that was a wasted “Be a man,” experience, and probably not the last one… unfortunately.
A friend of mine told me he eventually changed the voice of his GPS from a man to a woman because the female voice always told him to pull over and ask for directions.
Most men like to think they are human fixers for everything, and directions, and instructions are no different. Yes, that’s right, instructions.
Hey, guys. How about instructions? Yep, that’s another big one added to directions. Who needs instructions? I am a man and know how to fix or put together anything, remember?
Really?
I remember working on a TV cabinet/stand and getting more frustrated by the minute because it wasn’t going together as it should. Of course, I never looked at the instructions. Well, you already know why.
As I became increasingly more frustrated, my wife Jean, picked up the instructions, looked at the parts, and in a few minutes told me a few parts were missing from the package! Seriously! All I needed to do was to read the directions and I would have known parts were missing right from the start.
You are probably wondering by now, “What does all this have to do with the Holy Bible?”
Men have a tendency to not ask for help because they feel too proud, and society has caused this unnecessary emotion that can drive you further into the depths of pain and agony. That’s how we become lost and not able to find our way through life.
“A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” Proverbs 16:9
The Lord can only direct your steps if you let Him.
I was directing my own steps because Jesus Christ was not in my life, and it was a crisis of sin and without direction.
Do you ever wonder why women have fewer problems with doing things than men? And don’t comment that women have more time or that they have less to worry about. They have the same or probably less time during the day, especially if they have kids or work a full-time job.
Less to worry about, no.
So why do men fall apart easier? It’s because they put pride at the beginning of their list of emotions. Pride is the one emotion that will always trip us up or make us fall.
“Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.” Proverbs 26:12
So, what can you do to keep from getting emotionally lost? Jesus. Jesus Christ is the perfect GPS for your life. He can guide you into the right places, and keep you from going off the road towards that pain and agony.
And the best thing is that HE is always available, unlike your cell phone or car GPS, which may or may not be working when needed.
Yeah, I programmed an address into my car’s GPS and it couldn’t find the location. It was a good thing I had a slight memory of the location. Electronics are not always reliable.
But Jesus Christ is reliable. Just accept and trust HIM and you will never get lost.
Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight and understanding. In all your ways know, acknowledge, and recognize HIM, and HE will make your paths straight and smooth.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
Blessings to you.
