Angry at The News & Politics?

Angry at The News and Politics? Here’s What You Should Do

Someone once observed that news is the only program on T.V where they start by telling you good evening then proceed to explain to you why it’s not. And they were right. Just turn on any news channel and you will find enough reports of disasters and catastrophes. Then there is the politics and fake news.

With so many accusations and counter-accusations, it is almost impossible to separate fact from fiction. Pastor John Hagee expressed his frustration at this while preaching in his church when he passionately said, “the only good thing on my TV is the knob that turns it off.”

It is understandable to get annoyed at all the bad news and fake news that have flooded the airwaves. But how should you respond to news that make you angry?

  1. Be Angry But Don’t Sin

Anger is not always a bad thing. Every good Christian must be indignant when society is going against the grain of God’s word. Jesus was not smiling when he drove merchants out of the temple. He was burning with righteous anger. So, Christians should by all means be angry at the ills in society. But when you get angry, be careful not to be taken over by the anger.

Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath. Ephesian 4:26

Let’s say you watch some political news and you hear something that gets you agitated. How should you respond? Most people take that anger and start endless rants on social media. But as a Christian, you must always control your temper because if you don’t, it will lead you into sin.

  • Be Part of The Solution And Not Part of The Problem

It is not societies that are bad – it is the people in the society who do bad things and their actions give their environment a bad reputation. As a Christian, you should be part of the solution and not part of the problem. So, when you watch something on TV that annoys you, your first reaction should be to think of what you can do to bring positive change.

There is a reason why the Bible says you are the salt of the earth (Mathew 5:13). Salt helps in flavoring as well as preserving food. Salt can also be used as a disinfectant. The Christians should help alleviate the problems that are making everyone mad. Instead of jumping onto every trending topic with your opinionated views, the Christian should be the salt – introducing the flavor of God’s love in every situation.

When people start heated debates, the Christian should be the voice of reason. When people get mad at each other due to differing views on trending topics, the Christian should be the source of

Think about it – how do you respond when you watch something on the news that makes you mad?

PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, forgive me for getting too worked up after watching the news, and forgetting you have made called me to the salt of the earth. Help me to be a fearless influencer for your kingdom instead of just being part of the problem. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Blessings to you,
