Can You Outsmart the Devil?

Outsmart the devil? One of the things that comes out clearly in the Bible is how persistent the devil can be. He never relents on tempting humans. The fact that you say no today doesn’t mean he won’t come back tomorrow. And sadly, his persistence often pays off. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Yes, the devil is smart but you don’t have to be his victim.

The Bible says we are more than conquerors through Christ so yes, you can totally outsmart him.

But how? It’s easier than you think.

Here are three helpful tips to help you outsmart the devil all the time.

  1. Build your faith

In Jude 1:20, scripture says to “build up your most holy faith…” See, your faith won’t just miraculously grow. You must put in some deliberate effort. Start by cutting out things that are doing your spirit man more harm than good. For instance, don’t watch dirty movies, don’t be a participant in idle talk, etc. Instead, feed your spirit man by praying in the spirit and by feeding on the spiritual milk of his word (1 Pet.2:2).

The Bible tells us that when our strength is small, we will fall in times of adversity (Prov.24:10). That explains why some people stand firm amid diverse temptations while others crumble under the pressure. If your faith is strong, you will be able to withstand any attack from the devil. So, start building your spirit man today!

  • Be prayerful

Just a couple of hours before Jesus was crucified, he went with his disciples to the garden of Gethsemane to pray. He knew how his looming death would affect his disciples and so he solemnly admonished them to pray. His exact words were;

“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Mathew 26:41

Jesus was teaching his disciples that prayer was a prerequisite in outsmarting the devil. The average Christian uses prayer as a tool for supplication but it is much more than just that – prayer is a weapon by which we put the devil in his place. It is through prayer that the seed of the woman (the church) will crush the head of the serpent (the devil’s schemes) as prophesied in Genesis 3:15. If you neglect prayer, the devil will keep outsmarting you but if you spend time in prayer, you will always be on top of things.

  • Keep the Lord at Your side

The devil might be smart but he is no match for God. That’s why Paul reminds us that no adversary, not even the devil, can stand a chance if the Lord is on our side (Romans 8:31). So you don’t need to be afraid of the enemy. Just do your part and God will do his part. Build your holy faith and be devoted to prayer. Then you will resist the devil and he will flee away from you.

Think about it: Would you say you have a strong spirit? Are you devoted to bible study and prayer?

PRAYER:

Father in heaven, thank you for showing me that I can outsmart the devil. Help me to devote myself you the word of Go and to prayer so that I may build up my most holy faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Blessings to you,
John & Jean
