The excitement of the glorious second coming of Jesus Christ is a central theme in Christian theology. It represents the culmination of God’s redemptive plan for humanity and holds immense significance for believers. In this article, we explore why Christians should eagerly anticipate this momentous event and what it means for the world.
I don’t know about you, but we are eagerly waiting for the Rapture and His glorious return. Are you?
The Promise of His Return
Jesus Himself assured His disciples of His imminent return. In John 14:1-3, He said, “Let not your heart be troubled…In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” These words resonate across generations, filling our hearts with hope and anticipation.
To us the promise of His return give us hope for our salvation. Do you have the same hope?
The Mystery of the Timing
While we know that Jesus will return, the exact timing remains a divine secret. Mark 13:32 reminds us, “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” This uncertainty challenges us to live in readiness, always vigilant and expectant. Whether it happens tomorrow or a century from now, our posture should be one of readiness.
As much as I can think about the timing it brings me to wonder what I might be doing or where I might be, but the type of thinking just keeps you from moving forward on your divine path. So, I stopped thinking that way.
The Purpose of His Patience
Why has Jesus delayed His return? Peter explains in 2 Peter 3:8-9: “But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is long-suffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” God’s patience extends grace to a fallen world, allowing more souls to turn to Him.
To us it means that He is wanting everyone to believe and accept Him as the Lord and Savior.
The Unveiling of Christ
When Jesus returns, it won’t be a secret and quiet affair. His second coming will be bright, loud, and glorious. Every eye will witness His appearance. No corner of the earth will remain untouched by His presence. The skies will part, and the King of kings will descend. Revelation 1:7 declares, “Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him.”
Thinking about that fills me with hope and life ever-after. How do you think about it?
The Gathering of the Saints
At the sound of the trumpet, the living believers will rise to meet Him in the air. This is the Rapture. Their mortal bodies will be transformed into immortal, imperishable bodies. Simultaneously, the resurrected saints—those who have died in Christ—will re-enter their glorified bodies. This grand reunion will be a moment of indescribable joy and fulfillment.
The Rapture has been discussed many times and it is scary and enlightening at the same time.
The Restoration of Creation
Not only will Jesus redeem humanity, but He will also restore the entire cosmos. Romans 8:19-21 speaks of creation eagerly awaiting its liberation: “For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the son of God…that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption.” The curse will be lifted, and a new heaven and earth will emerge.
Finally, the earth will be cleansed of all the destruction we have poured on it for many years. Think about all the land as it was in the Garden of Eden. Free of chemicals and life abundant.
The Final Triumph
In His second coming, Jesus will defeat evil once and for all. Satan’s reign will end, and righteousness will prevail. Revelation 19:11 describes Him as the conquering King riding a white horse, leading the armies of heaven after the 7 year tribulation. The battle belongs to the Lord, and His victory is assured.
Will you be one of the armies riding a horse to victory and the restored earth to come? We hope we will.
Conclusion: Living in Anticipation
As Christians, we should live with a sense of holy anticipation. The second coming of Jesus Christ is not a distant theological concept; it is our blessed hope. Let us watch, pray, and proclaim His imminent return. May our lives reflect the joyous expectation of being forever with our Savior—the One who will transform the world and usher in an era of eternal peace. Amen.
