When a Culture Forgets God, the Mind Breaks -Part 1

A Debased Mind. Does anyone really know what is happening with the civil unrest, fighting, lies and deceit? How about when people deny the truth after a video shows exactly what has happened. How about ignoring what you know is true for what is false to convince yourself or appease others? The politicians fueling the battle for votes, and, of course, there are those who get paid to create the mayhem.

Ancient Warning

Do these events form your thinking? Do they make you feel they are right?

The most important question is “Are you afraid or really concerned of what is next?” As a true Christian, you don’t have to be. If you think about the people creating these problems, you could only come to one conclusion… they are non-believers.

Here is the proof why, and some so-called Christians will get upset:

Romans 1:28: “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind…” The words are disturbing because it is familiar right now in our world.

A fractured mind is on fire with chaos and truth rejected. Reason is smothered from the weight of lies. What the apostle Paul described nearly two thousand years ago describes a world furious, divided, confused, and convinced it is enlightened. Think about that… convinced it is enlightened

Romans 1:28 is not merely an ancient warning, but also, a way to help get us back on track.

A Culture Drowning in Information and Starving for Truth

Never in history have we had more access to information but been more confused about reality.

We are told truth is “relative,” morality is “fluid,” and “feelings” outrank facts. Lies are rebranded as “personal truth,” and protest replaces principle with rage replacing reason. Canceling conversation to avoid the truth is common, and outrage is monetized by paying protestors.

The Bible does not say God immediately strikes a culture that rejects Him. It says something a lot more sobering:

Debased Mind

“He gives them over.” Romans 1:28.

A debased mind is not the result of ignorance but the consequence of rejection. When God is pushed out of the mind, something else always takes His place such as ideology, self-worship, power, fear, or resentment. These substitutes cannot hold a society together.

From Protest to Poison

Many protests today begin with legitimate grievances, but quickly run into anger without accountability. Truth is no longer sought, only victory with the goal to silence opponents. Destroying symbols replaces rebuilding hearts.

Debased Mind 2

The broken mind doesn’t ask, “What is right?” It asks, “Who must be crushed or eliminated?”

This is how communities’ fracture, neighbors become enemies, and violence gets justified in the name of virtue. Hate can make you feel powerful—but it destroys the soul that carries it.

Lies That Sound Compassionate

Some of the most dangerous lies are wrapped in empathy, such as: “Follow your heart.” “You define truth.” “If it feels right, it must be right.” “Silence those who disagree.”

These ideas feel freeing but they actually remove your moral anchors. Do you have moral anchors? A mind cut loose from truth doesn’t soar but drifts until it finally crashes, sometimes in a very devastating way. Also, the result is anxiety without peace, identity without foundation, and freedom without responsibility. Where are your morals? Do you even know?

Recognizing a Broken Mind

Are you curious about a debased mind? Here are some signs you might recognize:

  • Constant outrage, no joy
  • Identity built on anger or victimhood
  • Inability to reason without emotion
  • Hatred toward anyone who challenges their beliefs
  • Moral certainty without humility

These symptoms can be changed, but require you to want to change them.

The Way Back: Re-Thinking a Broken Mind

Romans 1 warns us, but the Bible also offers hope by letting us know that a broken mind can be renewed. So how can you do this if any of the signs are in your possession?

1. Restore God to His rightful place. You cannot heal what you refuse to acknowledge. Truth begins when God is no longer optional in your thinking. “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2)

2. Replace reaction with reflection. Not every headline or event deserves your outrage. Not every voice deserves your trust, so slow down and test what you hear against truth—NOT TRENDS.

3. Trade pride for humility. A RENEWING mind asks, “Could I be wrong?”Did I see this wrong?” Pride always hardens your thoughts, but humility opens it.

4. Choose truth over tribe. Stop letting groups think for you; which you can see from all the protests where everyone says exactly the same thing, or are not sure what to say. This is because they are told what to say. God only renews individuals, not mobs. Do you like people telling you how to think or what to say? Are you ready to be renewed?

Let Love Discipline Your Anger

Anger is not always sin but can quickly turn into it. It can cause you to do things that you wouldn’t think about otherwise. Love speaks truth without hatred and hatred is a consuming flame that turns into a raging fire.

How many times have you become so angry and regretted it later?

A mind can be healed, but this warning remains: “If God is continually rejected, He will eventually stop forcing Himself where He is not wanted. God wants you to want Him.”

However, the most terrifying judgment is not punishment—it is permission. Permission allows you to believe lies, to destroy one another and to live without truth. Is this the type of life you really want?

The Choice Presented to Us

We are not merely fighting political battles—we are fighting spiritual ones for our own mind and of future generations. Will you continue down the path of rage and confusion or will reclaim truth, humility, and renewal?

A Broken Mind is not beyond redemption but we must first admit it is broken, and that can be hard if pride is your governing force.  Look closer at the reasons you are traveling down the road without God and see if you can reason it out.

If you need help, you can use these specific verses to regain focus when you feel a spiral starting:

For Clarity: “God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7).
For Rest: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
For Protection: “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you” (Isaiah 26:3).
For Restoration: “Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved” (Jeremiah 17:14).

Daily Practice Tip: When a negative thought arises, immediately say, “I take this thought to Christ,” and pray one of the verses above to steer you in the direction of truth. Also, read Philippians 4:8 to help you strengthen your faith.

Also, I see many politicians and celebrities trying to get involved in the upheaval because they want viewers and followers. Keep in mind that these people only live in gated communities and have no real dealings with normal (us) people.

Don’t be fooled! They are not affected by any of the protests, fighting and anger, and actually should just keep quiet and stay behind their huge closed and secure homes. Remember, they also have their own private security protection, unlike us.

Also, it seems as though someone else’s goal is attempting the same thing. Satan. Here are some Bible verses about this are: Isaiah 14:13-14, Matthew 4:9, John 10:10, 1 Peter 5:8, 2 Corinthians 4:4, 1 Thessalonians 2:13, Matthew 13:24-30 and Revelations 12:10-12.

Satan wants to keep people from God by hiding the real truth from them and showing them lies and deceit? Are Satan, celebrities or politicians (who want to be re-elected at any cost) keeping you from God?

You can read PART 2 here. You will be surprised and enlightened about the Bible’s take on the reasons for the civil unrest, and it has nothing to do with the Bible as the non-believers like to explain.

If you have any thoughts, critiques, suggestions or comments please let us know. We would love to hear from you!

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.
Psalm 111:10
